Uniden 036
Uniden 036 2,5mm headset plug in back connection to mic ,spkr and earth
There are lots of these around and some can be
picked up very cheaply . Unfortunately as they stand they are unsuitable for
bike to bike as they have no external mic socket to plug in a 2.5mm motorcycle
to motorcycle headset . However it is not too difficult to place a 2.5mm
stereo socket into the back of the radio , This is the only place you can find
enough room to fit a 2.5mm socket . you end up by wiring the external mic
connection to the top of the mic connection on the PC board
see photo and the ear speaker connection parallels the
loudspeaker which will continue to run when the headset is plugged in.
There is enough room overtop of the onboard micro chip just above the battery
compartment however the tabs of the external mic socket have to be bent at
a right angle so as not to foul the LSI chip inside .
position of 2.5mm stereo socket above battery compartment
The
Uniden 036 runs on 3 AAA batteries ,so it is best to use it with rechargeable
Nicad or NiMiH . On receive it consumes about 30mA which drops down
to 9.0mA on battery saver mode . However on transmit it draws 230mA
at a loaded battery voltage 4.36v ( new alkaline cells) I measured the
transmit RF output power at approx +25 dBm or about 300mW . The
squelch opens at around -119dBm on ch 1 ( 476.425mHz) which is
not too bad. i have configured the 2.5mm stereo socket in this radio for
"the tip is microphone, ring speaker and sleeve common.
