MY GPS PLOTS
Here are some local track logs I have made while walking along with my gps receiver running. Mostly, they show where the track actually goes, not where it may be shown on a map. They are in no particular order. Violent zig-zags and long straight lines seen sometimes are the product of the receiver guessing, not me
Hiwiroa, Mamuku. A good long walk to a high point with good views of the Bay of Plenty and Waikato. A marked DoC track to the Waiomu, then a route to the radio site.
Tauhara Mountain, Taupo: track route from Peter McKellar
Matawhaura Pa site, east of Lake Rotoiti. Access is from Hinehopu Reserve but the pa site is private land.
Good walk from Te Aroha Domain to Tui Mine site.
Tracks between Rotomahana Wash (accessed from Waimungu Road, through forest) and to Hot Water Beach on Lake Tarawera (top of map). DoC and private land..
Vehicle access to the Rotomahana Wash; suitable for cars. Not signposted.
The track/route to the Mangamuka Hut in the northern Kaimai range. Note that access is across private land.
A good walk up Endean Rd. (Paradise Valley) to the Umurua Falls (McKenzie's Falls). Note that this is the correct route and that other forest roads are not shown. The miro is conspicuous on the horizon. Another view shows our wanderings (blue line) superimposed on an aerial photo. The photo was taken 2-3 years ago, since then most of the pines have been harvested. Private land.
Here is the north-south track over Maungatautari hill- scarcely a mountain. The maps are divided into three- north, central and south. The south one shows where the recently constructed wheelchair track goes.
Tracks in the Tikitapu Scenic Reserve, Okareka. These are marked with white aluminium slats: there are many DoC vermin control tracks which are marked with coloured plastic.
A recent Ngongotaha Restoration Trust walk, over mostly privately owned land on the north side of Ngongotaha mountain.
