MOUNTAIN RADIO
The Mountain Radio Service is made up of volunteer organisations dedicated to assisting safety in the mountains by providing for hire small field radios to be used by trampers, hunters, and all those who go "bush" beyond other means of communications such as cell phones.
A field radio is no use unless there is someone listening, so the MRS has a network of base stations who maintain regular nightly schedules talking to the field radios, providing the mountain weather forecast, and taking messages if necessary. All this is supplied for a daily hire of a few dollars a day. The picture shows a typical field radio.
